Research and Outreach Activities:

KAFCOL/NAF has been working with several organizations; nationally and internationally from the beginning of its establishment in 2005. It continued to promote research and outreach activities initiated by NAF. In the initial phase, KAFCOL worked with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand and University of Reading, UK. KAFCOL also continued collaboration with the Danish Forestry Extension to promote Private forestry activities in Terai region of Nepal initiated by NAF.

Currently, KAFCOL has been involved in various participatory research activities including participatory action research with Institute of Forestry (IOF) Pokhara and Community Based Natural Forest and Tree Management in the Himalayas (ComForM) Project supported by Royal Danish Government, prospects of NTFP domestication with the University Research Grant Commission in Nepal, Improving Research Capacity in Forest Inventory in Nepal with Finish Government and with many others (such as Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP) of UNDP and Department of Plant Resources, Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Nepal-MoFSC). KAFCOL completed several short term research projects with the Department of Plant Resources (DPR) of the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation). The completed important research projects with DPR include market survey of potential Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs), Resource inventory of high value MAPs and Analysis of natural resource potential in the Far and Mid Western Regions of Nepal. Besides this KAFCOL has been involved in providing short term training courses including GIS and remote sensing, participatory action research, community based forest enterprise and value chain development.

The above Organizations/Institutions have shown their interests in supporting Forestry College in the form of research and outreach program. It has linkage with various community forest user groups (CFUGs) and many projects working in the field of community forestry in Nepal and abroad. KAFCOL will continue to strengthen such linkages in future.
