Kishor Chandra Gautam is an independent consultant with expertise in natural resource management and environmental policy frameworks. He obtained his MSc in Natural Resources Management (NRM) from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He has over 32 years of experience in planning, managing, and implementing forestry programs and conservation facilitation through different agencies under the Government of Nepal. In his tenure with the Government of Nepal, he has worked as a Forest Officer in Forest Product Development Board (FPDB) and District Forest Offices as Forest officer and District Forest Officer in fifteen districts including Dadeldhura, Pyuthan, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Saptari, Salyan, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Dang, Baglung, and Udayapur. In these varied roles, he has led projects to manage natural resources, including several community forest projects and the interdependent human resources. Similarly, he has experience in planning, budgeting, and policymaking within the Ministry of Forests and Environment. He was also the Regional Forest Director of Eastern Development Region from 2017 to 2018 and was the Secretary of Tourism, Industry, Environment, and Forests Ministry in Province 1. He was honored with the Best Manager Award in Sindhupalchok District in 2001 and was the recipient of the World Wildlife Fund's Abraham Conservation Award in 2010. He is the author of the book "Forest Fire in Nepal: A Handbook for Forest Users" which will be published in late 2020. As a consultant, he has facilitated policy level workshops and has provided consultations to several environmental and eco-tourism focus agencies. Mr. Gautam is a member of several NRM-related professional organizations and networks, including the UoE, NFA, and FRIDDA.
